Shush!!! Don't Say It
Have you ever been involved in a heated argument with a friend, classmate or even sibling and you were insulted? Perhaps you wanted to defend yourself and return the insult but you felt something in your heart telling you not to. Most likely you said it anyway but you didn’t quite get the satisfaction you wanted and felt disappointed with yourself. This is a challenge many Christians face but by God’s grace we all can overcome the urge to fight and hurt people with our words even when we have been hurt. Don’t forget that by your words you will be justified and also by your words you will be condemned. Oh yeah, it was Jesus who said that which means that this is a very serious issue and should not be overlooked.
James noticed that people praise God with their mouths and insult people with it too and that is something that shouldn’t be found among Christians. We should never be in a haste to speak or respond whenever we are insulted or confronted because it’s very easy to say something we may regret or that won’t please God.
Let’s try and take practical steps to watch our words and reactions. For example, the next time someone offends you or steps on your toes think of the most suiting reply to both express how you feel and not hurt the person’s feeling in the process of passing across your point. This makes us more mature, friendly and desirable to be around. And we will discover that hatred and malice can be averted by little acts like this.
Let’s always pray for self-control especially in times of disagreement with others so that everything that comes out of our mouths will bring glory to God. God bless you.
